Find counselling that's right for you
Perhaps you’re experiencing anxiety, the pain of loss, past trauma, or the impact of a relationship breakdown.
I offer a safe, confidential space for adults to explore and make sense of difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours through integrative counselling and Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor psychotherapy (PBSP).
Pesso Boyden Psychotherapy
(PBSP)

PBSP gently explores how earlier experiences continue to affect the present; and supports the creation of new, more helpful inner experiences so you can move forward with greater freedom.
PBSP:
-
Helps us experience how things should have been, by reversing what happened – meeting the client’s unmet needs
-
Seeks to change how one lives in the here and now by uniquely addressing traumas and early attachment deficits of the past
-
Originally and primarily body-based, focusing on deep feelings, concentrating on unconscious and preverbal attitudes in the right-brain – which run our life
-
Literally rewires the brain through an act of imagination
-
Pares away wordiness and allows deep feeling, growth and change
-
Follows a structure
-
Weaves the felt sense of the body memory into a new symbolic awareness
-
Work one-to-one or in groups
-
Use as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with counselling

-
Relational – working with the therapist towards a goal
-
Works through reflection and talking
-
Informed by different approaches
-
Work one-to-one
-
Often utilised as a course, short and longer term
My therapeutic background
I am a Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor (PBSP) psychotherapist. "What?" I hear you say!! Indeed, it's a bit of a mouthful. Basically, there was an Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden who developed the method, and they combined 'psyche' meaning mind and 'motor' meaning movement, because it's a mind/body therapy. I also hold an Advanced Level-4 diploma in Integrative Counselling. And, I completed a clinical placement with Arc of Axminster, a charity supporting adults during times of profound change, trauma, and loss, focusing on grief and bereavement.
"Emma has a natural capacity for grounded stillness that greatly enhances the therapeutic alliance with her clients."
(CD, Supervisor Report 2024)
As a humanistic therapist, I believe you are the expert of yourself. I'm inspired by person-centred therapy (PCT), working with empathy and positive regard for each person I have the privilege to support.
In addition to PCT I integrate elements from other modalities such as Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and the more body-based therapies of Gestalt and PBSP.
I adhere to a strict code of ethics, guided by The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I am dedicated to regular supervision and continued professional development (CPD).
