Workshop Description

"I can truly say that working with Emma and Pesso has had a transformative impact on my life." (Jacqui) Pesso Boyden System of Psychomotor (PBSP) psychotherapy is a liberating mind-body approach, releasing us from seeing the present through the lens of past memories. Bessel van der Kolk, a leading trauma expert, says that PBSP helps ‘rewire your negative thinking and dissolve unwanted patterns that keep you from enjoying your life.' What can you expect? PBSP is creative. Everything is client led and guided by Emma and John, your therapists for the day. We work in a supportive group throughout. There are up to four structure places available, and several observer-participant (o-p) places. Clients having a structure work 1:1 with within the group, and o-p’s role play ideal-figures, if needed, for the client. When o-p’s witness clients getting their needs met in a structure, they often piggyback on the healing that takes place. If you have a structure, you’ll be supported to create new symbolic ideal memories which give you a bodily felt-sense of what you needed to have happened in the past, enabling you to live your life more freely in the present. Where is PBSP from? Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden were dance choreographers who realised that emotions get stuck in the body, which then limits free-flowing movement and living in the present. As a result, their curiosity led them to develop PBSP, which became an official psychotherapy in 1961. Al and Diane realised that when we don’t get our basic needs met as a child - a safe place to grow up in, enough support, nurture, protection or loving limits - then we’re left with deficits that get filled with our own thoughts and behaviours to keep ourselves safe. Those automatic responses don’t necessarily serve us to live our best lives or allow us to move freely in life. That’s where PBSP can help. PBSP is particularly good for healing early childhood deficits where our basic needs weren't met (you’re not alone there), as well as issues around trauma. Deficits are met by an ideal-kinship figure, with the right words, at the age we needed. When we get the right fit, our brain will choose that experience over what happened. Attending as an o-p will help you decide if you'd like to have a structure another time. Emma and John are PBSP psychotherapists and counsellors committed to supporting people to wellbeing. If you have any questions or would like to book, contact Emma. Teas and snacks included.

Cancellation Policy

Pre-booking and payment is through Emma directly, only after mutual agreement that this specific workshop is suitable for you. Please refer to Satori's full Terms & Conditions for our cancellation policy. However, as an amendment to those terms, because of the nature of counselling and psychotherapy, it is not permissable to simply find another adult to take your place if you can't make your workshop and are unable to reschedule, without the other person first discussing it with Emma to make sure they are suitable to attend. For the wellfare of all those attending the workshop, it is up to Emma to decide if they can take your place.
