Workshop Description
"We had a truly wonderful experience helping ... with a variety of work, from building a compost toilet to making jars of apple sauce." (M & G 2019) We meet most 3rd-Wednesdays throughout the year, starting at 10am through to 4pm. No experience necessary as there's always a mix of jobs for everyone. Our day is based around The Green Gym and Eco-Therapy principles. The Green Gym typically aims to offer people a way to enhance their fitness and health while helping support and sustain the outdoor environment. Eco-Therapy gives people the opportunity to reconnect with the healing power of the natural environment whilst undertaking land based tasks together. Wellbeing can occur naturally as we move, connect with others, achieve goals and become more present. As a volunteer you'll have the opportunity to get involved with all sorts of tasks such as clearing vegetation, building gates, picking berries, painting a sign, growing veggies etc. depending on the season and weather. You will need a certain level of fitness as the ground can be uneven in places and the compost toilet is a short walk across two meadows. "Volunteer days are my favourites at Satori, because I not only get to learn myriad new skills and interact directly with the land, but I get to do that in the company of others. I have been delighted by the conversations I have had with so many new faces, and a great deal of satisfaction is derived from completing tasks together." (Andrew, 2024) Emma started the volunteer days in 2019 because of her passion in helping people reconnect with the land and themselves, inspiring healing with and through nature. She is a reflexologist, basket weaver, wild-food forager, as well as an integrative counsellor and PBSP psychotherapist, supporting people on their healing journeys.
